During 1943 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila Mexico, there was a famous restaurant-bar near the international bridge, called “Club Victoria” owned and operated by Mr. Rodolfo De Los Santos. In this place Don Ignacio (Nacho) Anaya worked as Dinning Room Manager and during one of his shifts he waited on a rice group of ladies from both sides of the border.
The ladies ordered a snack, they wanted to taste something different, so “Don Nacho” begin to think what to make to please the ladies. He suddenly had the idea of frying corn tortillas triangles, spread over them some Wisconsin yellow cheese and crown them with a round piece of Jalapeño pepper, baked them in the oven, and so, the “Nacho” was born. The delightful snack pleased all the ladies alike because of its delicious taste and from them on it became one of the most ordered snacks. It soon was included on the restaurant menu, and so in several other restaurants, as “Nacho´s Special”, honoring Don Nacho Anaya. And this is how the famous and world-wide snack known as “Nacho” was born and in 1995 Piedras Negras was officially declared as the cradle of the “Nacho”, and since then every year during the month of October the “Nacho´s Fest” is celebrated.
