PIEDRAS NEGRAS COAT OF ARMS

Although the approval of the Coat of Arms of the city of Piedras Negras dates from 1950, half century later was modified the decree of its authorization.

A new decree emitted in the LV Legislature of the State Congress of Coahuila, given on September the 5th of the year 2000, indicates that the previous one contained errors that made different the original one that was approved by the Piedras Negras Town hall.

The present description del Coat of Arms is the one of "without divisions in which a pile of stones saber color is represented, on which an eagle is standing in an attitude of undertake the flight, both in a golden background to symbolize with these emblems the two outstanding facts in history of the city of Piedras Negras: "the origin of its name was given considering the fluvial currents of the environs by effects of the erosion, that left uncovered anthracite mantles that dragged by the water had the black stone aspect, and the eagle by the name of a ford in Rio Bravo of the North, in front of the rising population that was called "Paso del Aguila (Eagle Pass)".

The recent decree related with the Coat of Arms describes this as one whose blue embroidery takes in golden letters the inscriptions "Piedras Negras", in the top, and "Mexicanidad", in the bottom.

The expression "mexicanidad", indicates the document, alludes to the virtue of the Piedras Negras people to preserve the qualities and traditions of its race.

"The embroidery is sheltered by two Mexican flags with the colors of the patriotic pavilion.”

"On the top 2 golden adornments stands out. The closing is a feather adornment in greenish and purple colors, to represent the indigenous tribes that populated the territory before the conquest”

The description finalizes indicating that to the right of the previous thing there is a stone axe, an obsidian spearhead and an indigenous macana, whereas to the left a spear spearhead, a halberd and a grip of Spanish sword appears.

Thus, the Coat of Arms of Piedras Negras not only synthesizes municipal history, but its proud belonging to the Mexican nation.
